Papers of Oswald Cooper, Chicago lettering artist, advertising designer and type designer best known for his Cooper Black and Cooper Bold typefaces. Includes art work for type designs; art boards, proofs and finished advertising pieces; and limited correspondence. There is also a file on patent cases of 1926-1928, and Cooper's testimony before Congress on the originality of typefaces, and ephemera from other artists.
Portraits of Writing Masters and Mistresses
Collection of 170 prints and manuscripts produced primarily in Europe between 1595 and 1878, the bulk of which were produced between 1650 and 1780. Most items were produced in London. The majority of items are portrait prints of writing masters and penmen, though there are also examples of writing samples, calligraphic art portraying religious scenes or theologians, as well as correspondence.
